​1. TRADE

As of March 2022, the Busia One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) reported an annual revenue collection of approximately Kshs. 4 Billion. This marked a significant increase from Kshs. 400 Million in 2018, following the establishment of OSBP. The OSBP has streamlined customs procedures, reducing clearance times and enhancing efficiency.

2. Agriculture

In manufacturing sector, The governor is keen on reviving the cotton planting and has revived the ward based revitalization program across the county. With the construction of Industrial Parks, Investors can put a plant and process their products locally.

3.Rice Farming

Rice is planted in Busia at small scale but with the support of investors, farmers can plant in large scale as there is enough land. There is currently no rice factory that does the full value chain up to packaging and this can be a good opportunity for investors.

4. Fish Farming

Fish Farming with Busia being close to Lake Victoria there is a supply of fish and involvement of the locals in fishing. This is, however, facing challenges in terms of fish processing and storage.
 

 


5. CASSAVA Farming

CASSAVA Farming is mainly prominent in Teso North, Teso South, Samia and Bunyala Sub counties. Busia County is generally a cassava growing region. The county however does not have  a cassava processing plant and is keen at acquiring one that will work across the entire value chain.
